These stands will NOT support speakers up to 8Lbs. Or 5. I couldn’t even get mine to properly thread so as to hold their OWN weight. You can do better. Like keeping the speaker in your lap: that would be better.

I bought these speaker stands after reading several reviews at Amazon and elsewhere online, and they seemed like they would be adequate for the price. While I didn’t expect them to be top of the line, I didn’t expect the gift-wrapped turd I received either. The stands are supposed to hide the speaker wires by allowing you to thread them through the base.The opening was too narrow to get my speaker wires through. The screws that hold the base plates down stripped their threads on one stand, and are too short in any case. Of the speaker mounts that were included in the box, only the two-sided tape mount would hold my speakers-and the tape on one stand failed less than twenty minutes after installation. I left the room, came back, and my speaker is hanging by its cord! Avoid this shoddy collection of foreign made junk!

I bought these stands on the recomendation of my Rep at Definitive Technology. I needed a stands for a pair of Mythos Gem XLs. The stands offered by Definitive are meant for the Gems the Gem XL is larger and heavier making the OEM stand unstable. This is my second Omnimount purchase. For the money they are OK. Build quality is about a C (Remember the price).There are indeed two stands in the box with all the trimmings.Assembly was not too bad but make sure you have all the parts in place before you run the wire. If you want to change the base plate you will have to redo the wire also. Omnimount states that the wire can only be fed through the top. I already have in wall speaker wire so that was not going to happen. I was able to fish the wire through the bottom with a little effort(14 gauge).Attaching the telescoping post was kinda touchy,the metal is very thin and you can easily strip the threads so be careful. With the stands assembled and the speakers mounted they look quite nice.I used the telescoping adjustment to match the height of my towers getting a nice surround effect.With a weight of 7.4 LBS I am close to the maximum weight rating.So if you are like me I recommend using the spikes on carpet. This also a bad combination if they will be in a high traffic area. |
